Biography of presenter:

At the moment I am working mostly with children and their parents on various developmental difficulties in my private practice and I also do organizational coaching and consulting for employee development. In my work with adults I’ve been working on experiences of addiction, childhood trauma, anxiety and difficulties in intimate relationships. During this time I have noticed that most of the issues clients have are linked to insecure attachment relationships in the family of origin. Furthermore, I have noticed that changes are triggered and happen faster and at a deeper level when the therapy and counselling process is approached in a systemic manner, both with individuals and organizations. Therefore, my model of working is relational-developmental and systemic. The areas I am most interested in are attachment theory and systemic counselling and therapy from an integrative-relational perspective.

Workshop Abstract :

Attachment theory has gained much scientific support in the recent years and is at the moment the main approach to effective parenting, given the huge repercussions of insecure attachment on both the emotional and the cognitive development of children and adolescents, its long term effects being linked to such behaviors as addiction, eating disorders and other self-regulation difficulties. Hence the importance of helping children and parents to build a secure attachment relationship that is able to nurture their growth and that will provide them with a secure base—which is the main focus of our workshop. We will start with a short introduction to attachment and its importance in human development, drawing on the latest discovery in neuroscience and attachment research, followed by the presentation of the Theraplay method, practical applications (experiencing with the method) and the critique of the method. Towards the end of the workshop we offer a model for integrating the method in relational integrative psychotherapy with children and adolescents, addressing as well its practical implications.
